For many, pressure scenarios represent the most mysterious and confusing element in weatherization work. The warming and cooling of air creates a nearly endless set of invisible conditions that directly affect the comfort and safety of a home, and may even affect energy bills. To develop successful weatherization programs, it is essential that all workers have at least a cursory understanding of this puzzling facet of our work. We designed the Pressure House to reveal and make clear the mysteries of pressure as they pertain to weatherization work. Inspired by the exceptional pressure houses designed by such weatherization experts as the staff at Indiana Community Action Association (INCAA) and Anthony Cox, EMC created a replicable, full-scale pressure demonstration unit ready to deliver to your training facility. EMC staff sets up the unit at your site, and tests and prepares the house for instructors to use for trainings within one week of delivery. The Pressure House demonstrates a full range of pressure diagnostic measures under a wide variety of situations. To simulate real-world conditions, designers equip the Pressure House with a living room, bedroom, bathroom, and a combustion air zone (CAZ). It features a full--size heating system, a vented space heater, water heater, bath fan, fireplace, kitchen range hood, and a clothes dryer.
